This free jazz concert and conversation will feature music by Bryan Hughes and the Crew, the USF Jazztet Trio, and an insightful discussion led by the WUSF news team. A unique program developed by cellist Theresa Villani has as its base a new take on a beloved “fairy tale” and groups of songs to keep you smiling and laughing. Tenor Jerry Arnold, cellist Theresa Villani, and pianist/composer Colleen Schmitt combine their forces of musical virtuosity and dramatic flair to offer an electric-energy program you will not soon forget.
“Ladies Choice” Comedy Night on Friday Night with Headliner Rene Bray, whose diverse comedy allows her to relate to any audience with grace. Rene explains her life with biting wit, and can roar like a lion or purr like a cat (sometimes both at once). Featuring Comic Cure’s Funniest Female 2018 Sheena Reagan. With Special Guest Susan Sussman. Plus Michael Murillo as Emcee!
SOLD OUT Ronny Cox, is a superbly talented singer-songwriter, musician and actor who has been active in the music world and Hollywood for 40+ years. He played the guitar in the ‘Dueling Banjos’ scene in “Deliverance”, creating an iconic moment in movie history. Ronny is presently working on the TV show “Nashville” and performs his song “I’ll Waltz You Home”. Ronny Cox will be joined by Chip Dolan on keyboard and accordion and Ansel Barnum on harmonica.
This free program gives teens the unique opportunity to create their art alongside a different professional working artist from the community every month. Our artists will guide you to use new mediums & techniques and inform you about careers as an artist. All supplies included. In partnership with the Tampa Museum of Art. This class made possible thanks to a generous grant from the Lightning Foundation.
During these six sessions you will have the opportunity to write in the many varied styles of non-fiction, from memoir, to history, to current events and persuasive essays, with a dash of journalism. Your writing will be based in truth, reality, and facts…it will be your view of your life, of the world, based on your experiences.
Poetry Writing by John Davis Jr. will allow participants to experiment with various methods for creating verses. Poetic forms will be examined, and different ways to derive inspiration will also be explored. Through this workshop, participants will be able to construct, revise, and submit poems of their own for potential publication.
